Trash, Recycling & Special Events Schedule

April 1 - October 31: 
District 1 Solid Waste Collection: Monday & Thursday. Collection is home-side/rear yard.
Bulk Curbside Trash Pickup: 1st Saturday

District 2 Solid Waste Collection: Tuesday & Friday. Collection is home-side/rear yard.
Bulk Curbside Trash Pickup: 2nd Saturday

Yard Waste: On your solid waste collection day a maximum of 3 bags of grass/ vegetative waste will be picked up CURBSIDE ONLY! Branches should be bundled/bagged and be no longer than 4ft.

Saturday Bulk Curbside Trash Pickup: Includes such items as small appliances, furniture, lawn equipment and white goods.  Demolition/construction debris limited to two (2), fifty (50) pound bundles/containers with a maximum length of 4 feet per household are also included.

November 1 - March 31 - Once per week garbage collection :
If your regular pick-up is Monday & Thursday, (District 1) during this once a week schedule, you will be picked up only on Thursday. Bulk Curbside Trash Pickup: 1st Saturday

If your regular pick-up is Tuesday and Friday, (District 2) during this once a week schedule, you will be picked up only on Friday. Bulk Curbside Trash Pickup: 2nd Saturday

Yard Waste: There will be no yard waste collection during these months on your regular trash day.  Yard waste may only be placed curbside on your Saturday bulk pickup day. Branches should be bundled/bagged and be no longer than 4ft.  Leaves are collected per the posted schedule.

Recycling Collection: Every other Wednesday based on your district. Collection is home-side/rear yard of Commingled, Newspapers & Shiny paper, and Cardboard (should be broken down). No recycling should be in plastic bags. Check the calendar on the website or use the Recycle Coach mobile app for schedule and reminders. There are Hazardous Waste and Shredding/Tires/Electronics recycling events hosted by the Bergen County Utilities Authority throughout the year.

Drop off items from 8:30am to 11:30am on the following Saturdays ONLY:

Paper Shredding Event: Paper shredding at Borough Hall parking lot 9:00am-1:00pm on the following Saturdays.  Please use the Sycamore Ave entrance. Ho-Ho-Kus Residents ONLY

April 4, 2026 - Saturday
October 3, 2026 - Saturday

Styrofoam Recycling Event: For Ho-Ho-Kus Residents ONLY - From 9:00am to 1:00pm on the following Saturdays at the HHK DPW Building located at 23 Hollywood Ave. Click here for details and list of acceptable materials. Please remove tape, labels and must have no ink markings and be dry & clean.

Billing: The solid waste and recycling bill is mailed annually in December for the upcoming year.  It has 4 payment vouchers that are to be retained and used to remit payment on a quarterly basis:
1st Quarter - Due January 15th
2nd Quarter - Due April 15th
3rd Quarter - Due July 15th
4th Quarter - Due October 15th

Failure to receive a bill does not void responsibility for its payment or waive the past due penalty.
