COMING UP IN THE HHK COMMUNITY GARDEN:

HARVEST
The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Garden, established in 2024, has become a source of fresh produce for families facing food insecurity as well as a welcoming space where neighbors gather to connect, learn, and give back.
In its inaugural season, the 25’x50’ garden produced 763.2 pounds of organically grown vegetables. Of that, over 700 pounds were donated to Oasis: A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson and Ridgewood Social Services. The remainder was shared with our community at monthly farm stands, with 100% of donations going back into the garden.
What a year we had in the @hhkcommunitygarden in 2025! With 7 community events and countless planting and harvest days, this little garden worked its magic to bring the community together and provide 1,107 pounds of organically grown fruits and veggies to both our community and our neighbors in need. In addition to growing nine varieties of heirloom tomatoes, as well as eggplant, garlic, onions, peppers, squash, potatoes, radish, beans, herbs, and our prized zinnias, the Community Garden has become a lively hub, drawing volunteers of all ages and welcoming families to farm stands and other seasonal events. We kicked off the 2025 growing season with a Mother’s Day Pop-Up Shop, learned about honey making from NJ’s youngest beekeeper, made fresh mozzarella with Jimmy Mozz and celebrated Ho-Ho-Kus Day and hosted an eating-for-healing cooking demonstration from Grand Master Nan Lu.
Our biggest producer was the Copia Tomato, with a total harvest of 166.6lbs! Regular donations to St. Andrew’s Food Pantry in Westwood and Grace Redeemer Church in Glen Rock have allowed parishioners to feed their families with dignity.
Here’s a recap of where our veggies ended up:
- St. Andrew’s 399.3lbs
- Grace Redeemer 396.1 lbs
- Ridgewood Social Services 45.1 lbs
- Oasis 42.1 lbs
Total donated: 882.6 lbs
Total for community events: 224.4 lbs
Total 2025 harvest: 1,107 lbs!
(That’s 343.6 lbs more than our 2024 harvest!)
Get Involved! We have much more in store for 2026—join us! There are opportunities for everyone to volunteer—no green thumb required.

MISSION STATEMENT
At the heart of the Ho-Ho-Kus Community Garden lies our commitment to a shared goal: to cultivate organic produce to nourish our neighbors in need. Through sustainable growing practices, hands-on education, kindness, and collaboration, we aim to connect the community and empower individuals of all ages to foster food security and sow seeds of compassion far and wide. The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Garden will serve as a hub for not only growing veggies but for nurturing friendships and developing a strong community network.
WHAT?
Our mission is to grow organic produce to put food on the plates of those who need it most. We will grow, harvest, and supply fresh produce to neighbors in need in and around our community on a weekly basis. Look forward to some fun community events as well!
HHK Farm Days: The Garden's produce will also be offered to our residents on select Farm Days with donated proceeds supporting garden operations. Dates TBA.
Special Events: We’ll host a few special events, such as pumpkin picking and wine tastings. Dates TBA.
WHY?
According to Feeding America, 1 in 11 people are currently facing hunger in New Jersey. By building a network of committed volunteers, our Ho-Ho-Kus community can come together to make a significant difference. Our garden will use organic and sustainable methods as we work to grow a healthier future.
HOW?
No experience needed! Have fun growing and donating veggies!
The initiative heavily relies on volunteers who can participate in various garden activities such as planting, weeding, and harvesting, or in distributing the produce. By building a network of committed volunteers, the Ho-Ho-Kus community can come together to make a difference! Training is provided; your enthusiasm and dedication are valued more than gardening expertise! Volunteers may sign up to work in the garden (planting, weeding, harvesting), or distribute the weekly crop. Volunteers may sign up for one shift or multiple shifts.
