Interesting Facts about the Borough's Trees

Trees are an integral part of Ho-Ho-Kus’s character and charm and one of our community’s most precious resources. There are thousands of shade and flowering trees in the Borough comprised of numerous species, the most prevalent being the Norway maple. The town tree is the Washington elm, named after George Washington who reportedly spent time in Ho-Ho-Kus.

In recent years, the borough has planted hundreds of trees and has increased efforts to maintain both new plantings and existing trees. Trees help to add to the appeal of our residential and business streets with spring flowers, summer shade, fall leaf color and often winter interest as well. Trees also help to increase our property values, soften building facades, mitigate noise levels and provide habitat for birds.

We are proud of the fact that Ho-Ho-Kus has been designated a “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Foundation.
