Pandemic Planning

The purpose of this posting is to provide you and your family some important information regarding the actions you will need to take in the event of a global pandemic or other major health emergency. The Emergency Management Office is in the process of establishing a Point of Distribution also known as a POD. The State and County Health Depts. are responsible for monitoring the health of New Jersey citizens and planning for statewide prophylaxis and vaccination. If and when medications need to be distributed to the public the Ho-Ho-Kus OEM will notify you through our town’s telephone alert system on when and where to proceed to the POD for medication.

We are reaching out for volunteers to help us operate our POD and are looking for people with a medical or health background who might be interested in helping us. Each town will be responsible for reaching out to their community for volunteers. If you are interested in helping us please, contact the Borough Hall or OEM Coordinator.

In the meantime we recommend that you prepare your family and household in the event of a global pandemic or health emergency. Create a medical history for each family member so you will have it available when you visit the POD, especially if you have a serious health condition or allergy. A Checklist for planning for a Pandemic Flu can be found on the State’s website.
